Background of the Study
Online examination systems have become essential in many universities due to their convenience, flexibility, and ability to scale. However, the security of online exams remains a significant concern. Traditional systems are vulnerable to various threats, including cheating, hacking, and unauthorized access to sensitive exam data. As such, there is a growing need for robust encryption techniques to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and authenticity of online exam results.
Quantum cryptography, with its advanced capabilities for securing communication, offers a potential solution to enhance the security of online examination systems. The use of quantum key distribution (QKD) and quantum encryption methods could provide a highly secure framework for online exams, making it virtually impossible for malicious actors to compromise the system. This study will explore the design and development of a quantum-secure online examination system at Umaru Musa Yar'adua University, Katsina State.
Statement of the Problem
The current online examination systems in use at Umaru Musa Yar'adua University may not fully protect against the risks associated with cheating and cyber-attacks. Traditional encryption methods often fail to ensure the highest level of security required for academic integrity. This study will investigate how quantum cryptographic techniques can be integrated into online examination systems to prevent unauthorized access and manipulation of exam data.
Objectives of the Study
To design a quantum-secure online examination system for Umaru Musa Yar'adua University.
To evaluate the effectiveness of quantum cryptographic techniques, such as QKD, in securing online exams.
To assess the feasibility of implementing the quantum-secure online examination system in the university's existing IT infrastructure.
Research Questions
How can quantum cryptographic techniques be integrated into the online examination system at Umaru Musa Yar'adua University?
How effective are quantum cryptographic methods in securing online exams against cheating and unauthorized access?
What are the challenges in implementing a quantum-secure online examination system at Umaru Musa Yar'adua University?
Significance of the Study
This study will contribute to enhancing the security of online examination systems at Umaru Musa Yar'adua University, ensuring academic integrity and providing a robust framework for protecting exam data. It will also offer insights that could be useful for other Nigerian universities seeking to implement quantum-secure online exam systems.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on the design, development, and evaluation of a quantum-secure online examination system for Umaru Musa Yar'adua University. The research will not extend to other types of educational assessments or institutions outside of the university.
